Site Visits

Since 2013, LBWN has conducted 90 Mobile Bike Hub site visits designed to bring the Hub to the doorsteps of hundreds of neighbors. At these site visits, neighbors can receive free bike repairs and can also learn how to repair bikes on their own.

Mobile repair sites activate under-utilized space by creating daily activities and a sense of place over the course of several weeks. It also offers neighbors the opportunity to connect with LBWN on this and a variety of other community development efforts including home improvements, block clubs, and more.

Bike Repairs

Since 2013, the LBWN Mobile Bike Hub has repaired over 500 bikes. The Hub can assist with a variety of repairs including inflating a low tire, patching a leaky tube, fixing broken brakes, adjusting the bike’s shifting, and more.

In reflecting on the impact of the Hub, summer intern, Gabe Manzanet, commented, “Knowing that we’ve repaired that many bikes in two summers makes me feel like we’ve accomplished a lot more than just fixing bikes!”

Youth Leadership Development

Since 2013, over 450 youth have participated in the Mobile Bike Hub through site visits, school workshops, and an internship program. In 2014, a class of seven students from neighborhood high schools graduated from the inaugural Mobile Bike Hub Internship Training Program. Of these, two were selected to receive paid summer internships where they worked alongside the Hub coordinator at site visits.
