The Grassroots Community Leadership Development Program is a partnership between Layton Blvd. West Neighbors, the University of Milwaukee Center for Urban Initiatives and Research (CUIR)/The Milwaukee Idea, and the Milwaukee Foundation to identify and cultivate new community leaders in the Layton Boulevard West Neighborhood. The Program was developed in response to the need for leadership in a rapidly changing and culturally diverse neighborhood.  The neighborhood's capacity for improving its quality of life is contingent on the level of leadership provided by residents and stakeholders in the community.  Residents along with the new leader(s) are organized around an issue/issues and steps are taken to resolve the issue/issues at hand.

Outcomes of the Program:

bulletTo newly cultivate community leaders.
bulletTo improve the LBWN Neighborhood, through community improvement projects such as creating a community garden, establishing a parents' library in a school, attracting a business into a vacant storefront, rehabilitating an older home, and other initiatives that improve the family, social, and economic health of the neighborhood.
